Behold the Infiniti QX Monolith – sorry, Monograph concept

Infiniti doesn’t really have a lot happening in the US, what with its aging vehicle lineup and complete lack of electric – or even electrified – options. Honestly, it seems the brand doesn’t have big ambitions for the future, either, based on this QX Monograph concept.

At its debut during Monterey Car Week on Thursday, Infiniti said the QX Monograph "marks a daring new era" for the brand and "provides an alluring vision of its future design language."

We're not really sure we agree with either of those statements, since this concept is really just a full-size SUV with also-ran styling, likely previewing a new version of Infiniti's behemoth QX80.

The concept isn't electric, and it doesn't even have an interior. But at least the animated front and rear LED lights look cool, and the backlit 3D badge on the grille is new, so that's something. The six-layer paint – called "Akane" – is also pretty nifty.

Still, it’s really hard to get excited about the QX Monograph concept. This feels like a show car that could’ve debuted years ago, and it really doesn’t speak to any sort of bold future for Nissan’s luxury arm.

None of the brand’s products have standout features that elevate them above the competition, making it easy for rival automakers like Acura, Cadillac, Lincoln, and Volvo to eat Infiniti’s lunch. Unfortunately for Infiniti, the QX Monograph concept in no way looks to fix that.
