A drop in the Ocean: beleaguered Fisker dramatically slashes prices (again)

Good grief. Against a backdrop of reports suggesting that Fisker’s future is in serious trouble, the company has announced that its electric Ocean SUV will be getting much, much cheaper in the US.

And not in a way that suggests everything is rosy: picture a high street closing down sale, or that meme with the dog surrounded by flames saying ‘Everything is fine’. Because the top-spec Extreme model is dropping from $61,499 to $37,499. Condolences if you’ve already bought one.

Meanwhile the mid-spec Ultra trim sheds $16k - falling from $52,999 to $34,999 - and the most basic Sport model tumbles from $38,999 and hits the deck with a thud at $24,999. Ouch.

We needn’t remind you that the Fisker Ocean already went through a significant round of discounting less than six months ago. There's no word yet on what this all means for UK prices, though.

The new figures come into effect on Friday, and Fisker says all cars are 2023 models fitted with the 2024 2.0 version of its software.

The company claims it is 'strategically positioning Ocean to be a more affordable and compelling EV choice’, although the cynic in us suspects a swathe of negative reviews also has something to do with it.

Last month Top Gear Magazine contributor and YouTube tech god Marques Browlee called it ‘the worst car I’ve ever reviewed’, and the response to it elsewhere has been, um, mixed. To put it mildly. Interestingly, Fisker seems to keep putting off our test drive...

According to reports, a rescue deal with Nissan - which would’ve seen Fisker getting a cash injection in return for Nissan having access to its tech - fell through earlier this week, while production of the Ocean has currently been paused.

Meanwhile the company has apparently been delisted from the New York Stock Exchange after its shares tanked.
