UK on Cam'

Good news for fans of Stetson hats and the Collected Hits of Bruce Springsteen, as Chevrolet has announced that the new Camaro is coming to the UK.

And, unlike the British-built Beira, it'll be available in right-hand drive. According to Wayne Brannon, chief exec of Chevrolet in Europe, a maximum 1,000 RHD coupes and 1,000 RHD convertibles will be built, so we should see a few hundred of each in the UK.

The Camaro is powered by a 400bhp, six-litre V8 and is expected to reach these shores in early 2010 after a public debut at the British Motor Show this summer.

There's just one little complication: the name. See, Chevrolet is perceived as a Daewoo - sorry, as a budget brand - in Europe, so it's thought that the Camaro might exist as a standalone brand.

All of which rather punctures the dreams of all those UK punters hoping to take their Chevy to the levee. Are you happy to take your rebadged Camaro to the flood-prevention embankment?
