Video: watch Ken Block’s TG TV presenter audition
Mr Gymkhana and his 845bhp, four-wheel-drive Hoonicorn try to impress Chris Evans
Last year, Chris Evans put out a public call to the world: send in a 30-second audition video, and he'll assess whether you can come and work on all-new Top Gear TV as a presenter.
Naturally, we received quite a few audition tapes. But one audition was presented to Chris himself, and obeyed literally none of his requirements: it did include a car, it did feature stunts, and it did feature a gimmick.
Only one man fits this criteria: step forward, Ken Block. Mr Hoonigan himself. Yep, the tyre-smoking loon rocked up to one of our auditions with his 845bhp, four-wheel-drive Hoonicorn Mustang to show Chris Evans what he had in the locker.
It turned out to be quite a lot. With a high-revving drop of the clutch, Mr Block gave a very visual demonstration of exactly how a four-wheel-drive Ford Mustang lays down its power. Or, rather, doesn’t lay down its power.
Suffice to say, we were impressed, Chris was very impressed. But as you'll see from the footage above, a certain mute in a racing suit, err, wasn’t.
Of course, we enlisted Ken to give Matt LeBlanc a whistlestop tour of London in said Hoonicorn, which you'll be able to see on this Sunday's show...
