Exclusive clip: Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher

Tom Cruise is a good driver. This much we know, because when he came down to our studio to star in the famous ‘Top Gear: Series 15 Episode 5' feature film with his good friend Cameron Diaz, he nearly broke our little Kia.

Turns out that wasn't a one-off performance. He's starring in a new film called Jack Reacher, as, erm, Jack Reacher. And because he's military, Mr Reacher is adept at doing really cool things with really cool cars. Step forward the lovely V8-powered Chevrolet Chevelle SS.

"If the camera wasn't in danger, the shot wasn't worth doing", says director Christopher McQuarrie, in a sentiment we at Top Gear hold very dear to our hearts. The footage you see below - exclusive to TopGear.com - shows Tom powersliding and handbrake-turning the big American brute himself.

"We had a car chase with one great resource - an actor who is a professional driver", McQuarrie confirms. Tom himself was keen to play with the Chevelle SS's many horsepowers and torques - which, incidentally, make a lovely noise - to make the footage rather smashing too. Quite literally.
