The Toyota Supra and all things Japan: new TG mag out now!
We’ve dispatched Chris Harris to drive the brand-new Supra
It’s hard to put your finger on what exactly, but there’s something about Japanese cars that sets them apart from those born out of any other country in the world.
That’s partly why the Century, Toyota’s superyacht-sized flagship limo, has only ever been sold in its home market. We just wouldn’t get it. Now onto its third generation (in 52 years), we finally manage to don the chauffeur-style white gloves and drive one in the brand-new issue of Top Gear magazine.
Thankfully, the new Toyota Supra will be sold in Europe, but it’ll be built in Austria and only exists thanks to a partnership with BMW and the new Z4. Will that be a problem? We send Chris Harris to find out whether it’s more schnitzel than sushi.
And if you’ve always had a hankering for a Mk4 Supra, or any second-hand Japanese icon for that matter, you won’t want to miss our comprehensive buying guide. Be warned – there are huge levels of want involved.
Elsewhere, we’ve got the full lowdown on McLaren’s brand-new and inventively-named grand tourer, the GT, as well as a twin-test between the two rivals it’ll need to beat – the Ferrari 812 Superfast and the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera.
As ever, we’ve also got drives of the latest metal. There’s a three-way shootout between the new BMW 3 Series, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Volvo S60, and we get behind the wheel of the Jaguar F-Pace SVR, the Mercedes-Benz EQC and the Ford Ranger Raptor.
