Tesla Model 3 vs BMW M3: new issue of TG magazine out now!

Electric beats petrol. A bold statement on the front of the freshly-redesigned Top Gear magazine, but one that proved true this month.

You see, back in 2018, Elon Musk tweeted that the Tesla Model 3 Performance would beat anything in its class on a track. He even namechecked the mighty BMW M3 – a bold move. 

Naturally then, we tried to call Elon’s bluff. That meant grabbing both cars and heading to Thunderhill Raceway in northern California. You know the outcome, but if you want to find out just how David’s EV slayed Goliath you’ll need to pick up this month’s issue. 

Elsewhere this month – alongside all-new trending, retro and future sections, plus new columnists and even more reviews – we took a Bentley Continental GT to the Faroe Islands to explore the major engineering project that spawns when you attempt to dig giant road tunnels under stormy northern seas. Unfortunately for the underside of the £202,000 Bentley, there wasn’t any tarmac down yet.

We also had access to the two mid-engined Aston Martins that were unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show – the AM-RB 003 and Vanquish Concept – and went on an exclusive tour of the Koenigsegg factory in Ängelholm, where the finishing touches were being put to the 300mph Jesko.

And we wouldn’t be doing our job properly if we didn’t investigate what’s going on with BMW design and those huge grilles would we? We set Ollie Kew and Paul Horrell on the case. 

Our redesign also brings with it an updated Drives section, which this month features a triple test of the new Range Rover Evoque, the BMW X2 and the Porsche Macan.
