Brand new Top Gear mag on sale now + FREE giant retro supplement

This month’s Top Gear magazine celebrates the best of British motoring

Published: 17 Jul 2019

Hey you, do you like free stuff? Do you also like awesome retro cars, concepts and gadgets? Well, you’re in luck, because this month’s Top Gear magazine comes with a free retro supplement!

Oh, and did we mention that it’s MASSIVE? Inside you’ll find our exclusive drive of the bonkers 1970 Ferrari Modulo concept currently owned by Jim Glickenhaus, as well as our day spent turning back the clock at a classic racing school - flat caps and all.

We also decided to reignite the old Eighties argument of BMW E30 M3 or Mercedes-Benz W201 190E. Because any excuse to look at pictures of both is well worth making.

We haven’t even got to the main mag yet either. This month we’re celebrating the best of British motoring. These may be difficult times for the industry but Lotus, fresh from its takeover by Geely, is attempting to buck the trend with the Evija. The headline figures? 1,972bhp and 1,253lb ft of torque. Yep, it’s the most powerful production car in the world.

How to follow that? Well, we’ve also got the full download on the brand-new Mini Electric. Alright, alright, we know the Mini is more Bavaria than Birmingham these days, but it’s still a British icon and one that we should be proud of.

Speaking of British icons, Gordon Murray is finally back with his successor to the incredible McLaren F1, and he's given us exclusive details on everything from the drivetrain to the aerodynamics.

There’s nothing more British than driving a sports car on a rainy summer’s day either. So, we take three second-hand Brit bargains out for a countryside drive to show just what you can get for hot hatchback money. Amazingly though, the day we chose was sunny - how unrepresentative.

Elsewhere, we drive the new Ford Focus ST alongside its forefathers to remind ourselves just why we’ve always loved a fast Ford. Warning: contains a bright orange Mk2 – we cannot be held responsible for your levels of want soaring.

There’s our usual plethora of first drives too. This month we get behind the wheel of the new Renault Clio, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante, the Polestar 1 and, oh yeah, the SSC Tuatara - which may just become the first ever 300mph production car.

In our own garage, we say goodbye to the little VW Up GTI and welcome a base-spec Ford Focus, a Citroen C5 Aircross and the new BMW Z4. Plus, we take the Mercedes-AMG G63 out of its comfort zone and into the mud, pitting it against a 1990 Land Rover 90.
