Mercedes-AMG One: 13 big numbers on the £2.3m F1 car for the road

And one number we don't know: arm yourself with the most important stats on AMG’s furiously complex hybrid V6

Mercedes AMG One
  1. The turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 produces 574bhp

    The turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 produces 574bhp

Not a headline amount, considering the Ford GT’s V6 had 650bhp, yet this humble 1.6 – derived from Lewis Hamilton’s title-winning F1 car – makes 359bhp per litre.

  2. It revs to 11,000rpm

    It revs to 11,000rpm

Stratospheric, sure, but not the highest revving combustion engine ever built. However, transplanting an engine that normally idles at around 5,000rpm (Hamilton’s F1 car) to settle at 1,200rpm (the One) was one of the hardest parts of the whole project.

  3. The MGU-K produces 163bhp

    The MGU-K produces 163bhp

Short for ‘motor generator unit kinetic’ – an e-motor that sits on the crank to boost the engine.

  4. The turbo gets its own 122bhp e-motor

The turbocharger’s companion is there to give it an instant boost, spooling it up quickly and erasing lag. Will also offer a kind word and be a shoulder to lean on during rough times.

  5. Each front wheel gets a 326bhp electric motor

Each front wheel gets a 326bhp electric motor

That’s Volkswagen Golf R power, per wheel. There’s all manner of wizardry learned from the SLS Electric Drive to help the One scythe through corners better.

  6. Total power sits at 1,049bhp

    Total power sits at 1,049bhp

Despite its USP being an F1 car for the road, the One’s electric motors do most of the heavy lifting, at least off the line, so is it more of an EV than an ICE car?

  7. The downforce kicks in at 31mph

    But no VTEC, yo.

  8. There’s 0 litres of boot space

There is enough room for a set of earplugs, mind.

  9. The pedals can be adjusted over 11 settings

The backrests can also be adjusted to either 25 or 30 degrees, and the steering wheel can be moved electrically.

  10. It weighs 1,695kg

There’s a lot of the Mercedes-AMG One occurring.

  11. The fuel tank has a capacity of 55 litres

The fuel tank has a capacity of 55 litres

Should be enough to get to the supermarket for some milk… or set a blistering time around the Nürburgring.

  12. It’ll do 0-62mph in 2.9s, 0-125mph in 7, 0-186mph in 15.6s and top out at 219mph

    It’ll do 0-62mph in 2.9s, 0-125mph in 7, 0-186mph in 15.6s and top out at 219mph

Figures that you’d deem ‘sufficient’, or ‘x&*%ing fast’.

  13. Only 275 will be made, each costing £2.3m each

    Um, yeah.

  14. And one number we don’t know: the maximum torque

And one number we don’t know: the maximum torque

Apparently it’s impossible to calculate because of the AMG One’s savage complexity. But what is life without a little mystery?
