Nissan’s GT-R-previewing Vision GT goes red for Tokyo

Tokyo debut for updated concept. Should the next GT-R look like this?

Published: 28 Oct 2015

It’s been over a year since Nissan took its turn at creating a Vision Gran Turismo concept. Said turn gave us the 2020 Vision, though it didn’t take the most sensationalist of minds to picture the next GT-R looking similar.

It would seem the response that followed the 2020 Vision’s arrival was positive, for the concept has returned for the Tokyo motor show, with a new hue and some extra stylistic flourishes.

The soaring paint job is called ‘Fire Knight Red’, while there’s more vivid use of carbonfibre and a bolder Nissan ‘V’ at the front. It’s still very much a concept car, but a reskinning for Nissan’s home motor show proves the Japanese manufacturer doesn't want this one to fade from the public consciousness.

Nissan described it as “a vision of a what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future, and the next story to an audience that has always shared our passion for performance.” If that’s not a teasing hint regarding its next super coupe, we don’t know what is.

So what else do we know about the new GT-R? We’ve a firmer rundown here, but the basics are a twin-turbo V6 with hybrid technology, a weight figure of around 1.7 tonnes and a possible sub-seven-minute ‘Ring time are the basics. There could even be a fully electric GT-R.

As you were, then, but faster. Excited?
