Classified of the week: Honda S2000
As Tokyo shows the future of Honda, we look back at the basics
Hotly anticipated after the reveal of the rather excellent Urban EV concept back in September, the Honda Sports EV is a fully electric, two-seater sportscar with vintage styling and much coolness. There’s no real news about the power or performance, but Honda says it’s more about “a feeling of joy and emotional unity to the drive.” We like it very much indeed.
Mostly because it could well be the spiritual successor to the rev-hungry S2000 roadster. A TG fave.
The S2000 was built from 1999 to 2009, racking up sales of over 100,000 cars. The engine was a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 237bhp, and it was a little beauty. It revved expertly, screaming right up to the 9,000rpm red line, and changed gear perfectly. We mean perfectly.
Selling it to you? If the scary EV future of motoring doesn’t quite butter your parsnip and you’re interested in some relatively old-fashioned metal, here’s a beautiful little orange number we found for sale at a bargain £13k. The future’s bright, the future’s… well. You get it.
Without sounding like the Friday Ad, this particular example has “one little old lady owner from new.” And what a little old lady she must have been to spend her pension on this. With complete Honda service history, a whizzy 65,000 miles on the clock, radio and cassette in-car entertainment, immaculate engine bay, brand new tyres and MOT, an unmarked interior and, all jokes aside, rare and conditioned orange paint, this is an excellent example of good old-fashioned Honda.
Old or new? Engine or electric? Power or plug-in? Alliteration or artificial intelligence? Let us know which version you’d rather have.
