TG.com's Classified of the week
Last week, Top Gear drove the brand new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe; a supremely elegant four-door coupe based on the Six that looks like a shark, "made to swim fast and far", we surmised.
This got us thinking. If we trace the Six's lineage back through history, we eventually end up with the most shark-like coupe BMW has ever built, one that was definitely fast: it's the black, mint condition beauty you're currently gawping at above. It is the BMW M635 CSI.
It was the first high performance coupe from BMW's newly-formed M Division, built between 1984 and 1989, and was, essentially, the first BMW M6.
Because of that, it received the heart from the M1 supercar: a 3.5-litre straight-six packing 286bhp and 251 torques, allowing for an as-new 0-62mph time of six seconds (around half a second off the pace of the new 640i Gran Coupe) and a top speed of 155mph.
And this one on offer from the knowledgeable chaps over at Munich Legends is an absolute corker: it has covered just 17,000 miles since it was registered. In fact, it boasts a fully-stamped service book, all MOT certificates, tax discs, receipts and a mountain of paperwork detailing its life. There is no rust. It's had a mechanical overhaul. It's been stored in a climate-controlled environment. It's only been driven a few times a year. And, did we mention it's got no rust?
Like the new 6 Series Gran Coupe, this M635 CSI is a proper four-seater and was built to dominate the autobahns and motorways and backroads of this world in utter elegance and quite a bit of powerrr. You want provenance? That straight-six came straight out of BMW's first and only supercar.
At this point, we're sensing a discord in the force. Your cerebrum is desperately thinking of ways to conjure up the £42,995 asking price. Shady ways. Dark ways. You might want to head this way for the link...
