Gallery: the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R at TG24

What’s that? You just can’t get enough of TG24? Well, it’s good news for you my friend, because we’ve got a wonderful gallery of Megane RS Trophy-R content for you to feast upon.

So, the Megane came out just about on top in Ollie Kew’s twin-test with the Cayman. Remember, TG24 isn’t about lap times – we want to find the greatest driver’s cars of the past year. Well played Renault Sport. 

Carbon fibre wheels – mmmmmm. 

£72,140 for a Megane – ouch.

“It practically does an endo when you mash the middle pedal. And through every corner that requires more than a quarter-turn of lock, it’s on three wheels,” said Mr Kew.

Portimao has some lovely graphics, doesn’t it? So you know, the ones on the Megane can be removed as a no-cost option.

Are you a fan of the visual changes Renault has given the Trophy-R over its ‘standard’ hot hatches? 

No fake tailpipes here. The Trophy-R gets a full Akrapovic titanium system that’ll provide all the pops and bangs you could ever need. 

Hmmmm, we’re sure there’s usually something back here in a five-door car?

Ah, yes. Ditching the rear seats meant Renault saved a whopping 25.3kg. In total, the Trophy-R is 130kg lighter than the regular Megane RS Trophy.

Some facts and figures for you now… 

296bhp and 221lb ft of torque from a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder turbo. Front-wheel-drive. A six-speed manual gearbox. 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds. Top speed 163mph. 

The Trophy-R also remains the fastest front-wheel-drive production car to have lapped the Nürburgring with a time of 7m 40.1s. What a thing.

Want the nerdiest fact about the Trophy-R? Renault Sport used the smallest available media screen in order to save 250g. That’s serious commitment to the weight-saving cause.

Still trying to understand the price? Don’t bother. You can buy a base Trophy-R for around £50,000, but the fully-loaded carbon-wheel’n’braked version has sold out.

I spy a Chris Harris behind the wheel! Yep, and rumour has it he referred to the Megane as a ‘little rally car’ after a spirited drive.
