Ten Things We Learned This Week

  1. 1. Top Gear's 458 ‘Nigel Mansell' is better than Ferrari's 458 ‘Niki Lauda'

Ferrari announced a special, one-off ‘Niki Lauda' version of its 458 supercar, celebrating the Austrian maestro's 70s heyday. But TG desperately wants to see the ‘Nigel Mansell' edition, as knocked up by TG art bod Pete Barnes. It's got a moustache. Need we say any more?

  2. 2. A Golf GTI with 500bhp and a plastic body will melt

We recently drove Volkswagen's Design Vision concept; a 500bhp show car that showcased the future of the Golf GTI. It's a one-off, priceless work of moving art that is very fast. And we melted it a little bit. Oops.

  3. 3. Nissan's shed is better than your shed

You might have an amazing shed with mint condition classics nestled inside and think you have the best. You don't. Nissan's is better. It has a orange and white 1972 Minor Touring class Datsun Cherry Coupe and an electric open-top President Sovereign one-off.

  4. 4. A Nissan 370Z is worth more than you think

Mark Parisi has decided that actually, no, two testicles is just being greedy, and one of them should belong to medical research. So he is to donate one, in exchange for some money. Around £22,000 ($35k), to be more specific. He wishes to use this money to buy a new Nissan 370Z. Which begs the most obvious thing we can read from this: how on earth is a new Nissan 370Z worth only £22k in the USA?

  5. 5. Honda's bringing SexyBootBack

We've just had confirmation that as of next year, Honda's BTCC challenger will be the new Civic Tourer. That's an estate, with 300bhp, going racing in the BTCC. Well, by ‘racing in the BTCC', we do of course mean ‘knocking seven shades of racing livery out of one another'.

  6. 6. The Porsche 918 Spyder is really quite astonishing

We didn't really have to say anymore. It's just really quite astonishing. Actually no, wait, we've actually said quite a lot more.

  7. 7. Misty the dinosaur is better value than an Aston Martin Vanquish

Using a healthy dose of Top Gear Maths, we concluded that cost-per-metre, a £400,000 lump of dinosaur bones is better value than a Vanquish, but worse than a Porsche Cayman. See? We can do sound consumer advice.

  8. 8. Ken Block's Gymkhana 6 looks no less amazing using GoPro alone

Ken Block's Gymkhana 6 is rather nice to look at, because Ken makes many tyres turn into giant plumes of smoke and fails spectacularly to drive in a straight line. It's also equally nice to look at when viewed through the GoPro footage alone.

  9. 9. The Enfield Thunderbolt is a slice of 1960s amazingness and we want one

Word reached TG.com about a little-known electric car made on the Isle of Wight in the mid ‘60s. It's called the Enfield Thunderbolt, had a top speed of 48mph, a range of 56 miles, did 0-30mph in 12.5 seconds and had a better drag coefficient than a Porsche (in its day, mind). Even Ronald Reagan liked it. We want one.

  10. 10. The Lamborghini Gallardo is dead and its replacement sounds really quite nice

Lamborghini has announced that the last ever Gallardo has rolled off the production line - a red Spyder Performante - after a 10 year model run. It has also released an audio clip teasing the sound of its successor. And it sounds... fruity.
