You’ll still be seeing Volvo estates and saloons as police cars in the UK
Volvo has gone SUV-only in the UK, but the move doesn't apply to the emergency services
Just in case you missed the really very big news of the week: Volvo is axing all of its saloons and estates in the UK in order to become an SUV-only brand. Yeah, we're just as shocked as you are.
But we now have an update from a source at Volvo UK, and we’re told that you will still be able to get a lovely low-roofed Volvo on our shores. The only catch? You’ll need to be a member of the emergency services.
“Volvo Car UK will continue to supply saloon and estate authority specification models to our emergency services customers,” reads Volvo’s statement. “This includes V60 and V90, together with their Cross Country variants, and S90.
“Authority specification vehicles have high performance engines alongside lower interior specification, with uprated payload capacity and upgraded brakes. These vehicles are not subject to the 112mph speed limiter found in all our other cars. Authority vehicles are designed and built specifically for the use of these key customers. They are available via the Volvo Car UK Special Vehicles department and can be converted for blue or amber light use.
“The V90 continues to be very popular with UK police forces for traffic and roads policing.”
So, if you’re that desperate for a new V90 estate, best get down to the Police Academy pronto.
