W Motors reveals the Ghiath Smart Patrol: a giant police SUV
Built for the Dubai police force, the big SUV is clearly not to be trifled with
Details about this, the W Motors Ghiath Smart Patrol are few and far between, but we know this: the Dubai police force has just ordered 400 of them, and each of them are not to be trifled with.
Without sounding like something out of RoboCop, welcome to the future of law enforcement in the UAE. There’s no technical data on the Ghiath, other than the acknowledgement that it’s a “radical departure from classic security vehicle development”, and features “strong lines highlighting powerful muscles”.
Speaking of which, that silhouette certainly matches that of the Nissan Patrol, and the UAE versions of the big Nissan SUV carry either 4.0-litre V6 or 5.6-litre V8s (the latter kicking out just under 400bhp) up front.
Whatever it is, it’s massive. And packed full of tech. There’s a 360-degree deployable periscope camera, eight exterior surveillance cameras, facial and licence plate recognition systems, a 16in screen inside that’s hooked up with the main dispatcher and even a driver behaviour camera.
As you’d expect of such a vehicle, there’s a custom rear bench, a protective cage, and a boot box to house rescue and safety equipment. Oh, and an on-board drone.
We’re told the Ghiath is the first W Motors car to be built at the company’s new ‘Silicon Oasis’ factory in Dubai, and if you’re still trying to pin down the name, it’s the same company that built the Lykan HyperSport – the car that flew in Fast & Furious 7.
