The new V8 Audi SQ7 gets a fresh face, is still rapid

Audi updates its torque-tastic range-topping turbo-diesel SUV

Published: 24 Jul 2019

News flash: big, fast Audi SUV is still big, and still fast. This is the new, updated Audi SQ7.

As you were, then. Almost. Following Audi’s refresh of the main Q7 model line, the company has glitzed up the fastest one. The highly complicated and very clever 4.0-litre V8 biturbo diesel and electric compressor setup remains, but the bottom line is that it'll still pump out 429bhp, a whopping 664lb ft of torque and punch you from 0-62mph in 4.8s. Same as the new SQ8, FYI.

You also get all-wheel-drive, standard-fit adaptive air suspension, roll stabilisation, progressive all-wheel steering and a sport diff.

And details. Like ‘S’ specific details. The grille gets a pair of slats, the mirrors are finished in an aluminium look, and the four exhaust tips are chromed. There’s a 3D ‘blade’ in the bumper, while “the underbody protection at the rear looks even sturdier”. There are also matt silver accoutrements about the body, though you can just option a ‘black styling package’.

Big wheels? Check. 20in cast aluminium monsters with a five-spoke turbine design. Big brakes? Check. 400mm diameter discs up front, 350mm at the back. An even bigger – like, really very big – brake system is on offer, measuring up to 420mm up front and 370mm at the back, built from carbon fibre ceramics.

Inside it’s as per the SQ8 SuperSUV too: lots of leather and toys, lots of screens, many buttons to push. The whole thing will go on sale in August 2019, for around £76k.
