Brabus has got its hand on the new Mercedes G-Class
Tuned G500 adds power, spoilers...
Well that didn’t take long. Brabus has already got its hands on – and applied its typical modifications to – a new G-Wagen. Sorry, G-Class.
Beneath the skirts, spoilers and so-on this is a regular G500 – not a G63 – with the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 chipped from 416bhp to 493bhp. 0-62mph takes 5.7 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 130mph. There’s also a stainless-steel active exhaust with a quiet “Coming Home” mode.
That’s about it for technical mods – the rest are aesthetic. The bumpers are new (the front one apparently reduces lift at speed), there’s a bonnet scoop, spoiler, massive 23-inch alloy wheels and a carbon-fibre light-bar. Inside it’s the usual mix of Alcantara, leather and so-on. You can spec whatever and Brabus will do it.
Brabus isn’t talking money, but there’s no way these mods come cheap. So if you want a shoutier, faster G-Class, wouldn’t you just buy an AMG G63 and be done with it?
