Watch Merc’s hardcore AMG GT R Pro at the Nürburgring
Track-honed MegaMerc is quite fast around a track
We suspect very few of you out there would consider the Mercedes AMG GT R to wear some puppy fat around the edges. For those few, the AMG GT R Pro is the answer for your ‘I need zero-fat, track-honed nutjob’ request.
It is, in short, a zero-fat track-honed nutjob. The GT R’s 577bhp twin-turbo V8 is carried over from the regular GT R, to accompany better brakes, lighter wheels, carbon fibre aero addenda, better suspension, and a Track Package.
With all of these effects applied, the GT R Pro is capable of sailing around the Nürburgring in 7m 04s; six seconds faster than a regular AMG GT R. Mercedes-AMG GT3 racer Marco Engel was the gentleman responsible for this time, conducted in what Merc defines as ‘autumnal conditions’.
So, fast. Though, not quite as fast as a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which did 6m 56s. Still, near seven minutes around a scary racetrack in a rear-drive turbo V8 supercar. Watch it above.
