Watch: Koenigsegg One:1 crushes Spa

Here is some video footage of Koenigsegg's banzai One:1 ‘megacar' going really quite quickly at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. You will want to watch it immediately.

The footage takes place on a public day at Spa. After blitzing a path around Suzuka, company founder Christian Koenigsegg decided to pop into Belgium on his way back home to Sweden, to see how the megacar measured up on one of Europe's finest, scariest circuits. Because why the hell not?

Firstly, it's further evidence that the Koenigsegg One:1 is officially in training for its much-anticipated assault on the outright production car record at the Nürburgring later this summer.

Secondly, because the Koenigsegg One:1 is also officially off-the-scale quick. As in, wheelspinning-in-fourth quick. The driver in the video - ‘Segg factory helmsman Robert Serwanski - wasn't even flat through Eau Rouge, and yet nailed a lap time of 2m33.26s. For the purposes of comparison, Marcus Ericsson's Caterham-Renault F1 car last year managed a 2m14.44s qualifying lap.

The One:1, remember, boasts a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 putting out 1340bhp - which, allied to a 1340kg kerbweight, means a power-to-weight ratio of, yep, one horsepower per kilo.

Thirdly, because Spa. Spa remains one of the most intense, astonishing race circuits on planet Earth. We're told ex-Formula One man Adrian Sutil was on hand to show Koenigsegg around the place (he knows it reasonably well, apparently...), noting the nuances of the track and surface.

And then Rob was let loose.

We're told it was his first time at Spa, there were other privately owned cars on track (including four customer Koenigseggs), that all driver aids were switched off, and he wasn't even going flat out.

Koenigsegg tells us the One:1 clocked a top speed of 191mph around Spa, and pulled over 1.7 lateral g. Those are some serious numbers.

"The car felt really great," said driver Serwanski after his lap. "It behaved exactly the way we want it to. Safe and predictable behaviour [...] with a small, confident level of understeer that is easily balanced to neutral or oversteer by applying more power."

Safe and predictable? You be the judges of that...
