Wallpapers: McLaren’s very fast, very green 675LT

Eco-enthusiasts, let us introduce you to this season’s must-have green accessory, the McLaren 675LT.

Think of the LT – those initials are McLaren-speak for ‘Longtail’ - as a lighter, harder and more powerful version of the 650S.

It’s also ludicrously fast, thanks to a fettling of the familiar 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8. Compared to the 650S, more than half of the engine’s parts have changed to deliver more power and torque.

How much of the good stuff? A satanic 666bhp (675PS, hence the name) at 7,100rpm, and 516lb ft of torque. And thanks to new, lighter materials – cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, new cams, lighter connecting rods, that kind of thing – and more reliance on carbon fibre, the LT is 100kg down on the already skinny, similarly carbon tubbed 650S.

That gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 541bhp per tonne. So you’re looking at a 0-62mph time of 2.9 seconds, a 0-124mph time of 7.9 seconds, and a top speed of 205mph. Not too shabby.

As you can see, the 675LT gains an aggressive front bumper, a carbon fibre front splitter, new front wing end plates, new side sills and an air intake at the rear arch. That’s all additional downforce to squish the car down onto the black stuff as much as possible.

You’ll also notice the airbrake is also twice the size of the 650S’s, making it more of a hydraulic parachute than ever before to help prevent you making a Mclaren-shaped hole in the local scenery.

Sounds great doesn’t it? Sadly you’re not getting one any time soon. All 500 of the £259,500 super-Macs sold out before anyone outside McLaren HQ had even driven one.
