The top 10 fastest GT cars on sale today

How apt it is that the first car we come to on this list is the GranTurismo. The big Maserati epitomises what it is to be a continent-crushing GT car and couldn’t be any more suited to the role if they’d named it after it. But wait, our Italian phrasebook says they did! The GranTurismo has been around for a while now, but it’s still clinging on to the new boys.

And here is one of those new boys. The 992 Carrera S has a top speed of 191mph (crucial of course for those Autobahn runs). There will be some debate over what the 911 actually is these days. Is it a sports car or a supercar? And can the Carrera S be considered a GT? Well, it’ll cruise across country before getting jiggy when things get twisty, so it’s a good enough grand tourer for us. 

We’ve excluded the more hard-edged GT R from this list, but the GT C still makes it in with an impressive top speed of 197mph from its 549bhp 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8. It’s not all shouting and tyre smoke from Affalterbach cars these days, although thankfully there’s still plenty of that when you want it.

This is what some may call a bit of a shock. The new McLaren GT only comes in at number seven of the top 10 fastest GT cars on sale thanks to its 203mph top speed. It’s been designed from the ground up as a proper tourer though, so even though it still uses the McLaren carbon monocell and a mid-mounted V8, there’s a huge 570 litres of boot space.

The 570GT may have those two little letters in its name, but McLaren very much considers this car as a part of their Sports Series. It’s essentially a 570S but with a slightly plusher cabin and a hatchback-style boot. That’s no bad thing though, and at 1mph faster than its new big brother it retains some serious bragging rights.

Imagine the momentum a Continental GT is carrying at 207mph. Blimey. 

The new-look Conti is more athletic in its setup than its predecessor, but thankfully it still keeps the monumental W12 engine that sets it apart from the crowd.

The AMR is now the only DB11 you can buy with a V12 engine. It’s also a more sporting car than the ‘standard’ model, but that doesn’t mean it should lose its status as a GT. It may be slightly louder and busier than the Bentley, but it’ll still cruise in comfort all day long.

The GTC4 Lusso matches the Aston Martin for top speed, but just clinches a place on the podium thanks to its quicker 0-62mph time of 3.4s, compared to the DB11’s 3.7s. It’s an understated, V12-powered, shooting-brake Ferrari – what’s not to love?

The DBS Superleggera is achingly beautiful. That long bonnet houses a twin-turbo V12 with 715bhp and 700lb ft of torque. It could almost punch a hole through time, but it’s beaten to the top spot by its one main rival…

The 812 Superfast. Ferrari’s most ballistic GT car ever as they continue to battle it out with Aston. The headlines? A 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12, 789bhp, 529lb ft of torque and an 8900rpm red line. 0-62mph only takes 2.9s too, that’s half a second quicker than the DBS Superleggera that tops out at the same speed.
