Showroom-fresh Ferrari Enzo and Maserati MC12 go up for auction
With only delivery miles on their odometers, the pair are set to fetch in excess of £10 million with Roman’s International
In today’s digest of unattainable supercars that you’d fear to even breathe around, an immaculate Ferrari Enzo and Maserati MC12 are both going up for sale.
They arrive from the same collection and have been kept in flawless condition throughout ownership - a trait that is of paramount importance to many collectors. As such, the duo are claimed to have doubled in value over the last few years as the ultra-rare car market soars.
The Ferrari Enzo was created first, and as a mark of commemoration to the legendary founder of the Prancing Horse firm. Essentially, the Enzo harnesses much of the Formula 1 technology that saw Ferrari dominate the sport at the time, duly fostering a reputation as one of the brand’s greatest hits over time.
The numbers remain bewitching even by today’s lofty standards: the naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12 produces 660bhp and an almost identical torque output. This is then transferred to the road through the rear wheels using what was a then-revolutionary race-derived gearbox. With only 400 units ever leaving the production lines, the Ferrari Enzo was - and is - only ever going to be an appreciating asset.
Then, in what has become one of motoring history’s great double acts, Maserati was allowed to use the Enzo’s chassis, engine and gearbox to commission its very own take on what was, unquestionably, the world’s most sought-after car at the time.
The bi-product was called the ‘MC12’, and celebrated Maserati’s return to motorsport after a 37-year absence. Just 50 examples of the iconic blue/white-themed supercar were made over a two-year span, which, like the Enzo, means that the value has reached eye-watering amounts these days.
The history shared by these two cars has now reached its zenith, as two perfect examples make their way to Surrey-based luxury automotive dealership, Roman’s International, to be sold for a pre-auction estimate of over £10 million.
For some perspective about just how significant the inflation has been, the Ferrari Enzo had an original price of around £450,000 in 2002, while its opposite was marketed at close to half a million a piece. Crikey.
Speaking ahead of the auction, the director of Romans International, Tom Jaconelli, said: “The sale of these cars is not merely a transaction but the next evolution of their journey as historically important collectable cars. Whether for the discerning enthusiast or the visionary investor, the Maserati MC12 and Ferrari Enzo are not merely cars, but artistry and history on wheels, each bearing the legacy and the pinnacle of contemporary technology of two of the most emotive automotive brands in the world.”
