For sale: one LaFerrari. Price? FIVE MILLION dollars
One-of-499 hypercar hits the second-hand market. For a significant sum
Famously, Ferrari announced it would build just 499 examples of the gorgeous, V12-engined LaFerrari hypercar. It sold out very, very quickly.
The going rate at launch was over a million English pounds, but since the LaFerrari arrived on the scene – triumphing in Top Gear magazine’s world exclusive triple test against the Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1 – a few have come up for sale on the used market.
World exclusive: LaFerrari vs Porsche 918 Spyder vs McLaren P1
But never for this much. Today, we learn that a black LaFerrari has come up for sale in America for the grand total of… five million dollars.
Five. Million. Dollars. £3.2m. That’s a big number, and more than double what the LaFerrari cost its first owner. There’s nothing particularly special about this example either – apart from the fact that, y'know, it’s a damn LaFerrari, and therefore represents the pinnacle of Maranello’s road car capability. Indeed, the world's road car capability.
It has a black exterior. It has a tan interior. It has a 6.0-litre V12 supplemented with electric power, and makes a combined 950bhp. It has covered just 202 miles and is, according to the dealer, the only LaFerrari available for purchase in America.
Worth it? That’s your call, Mr Russian Billionaire. All 499 LaFerraris were snapped up quicksharp, with potential customers needing to have owned at least five Ferraris previously to even be offered the chance to buy one.
What, might you reasonably ask, does Ferrari make of owners selling on their limited edition cars? Well, Ferrari told TopGear.com this. “Clients acquiring a limited-edition LaFerrari undertake to give their dealers the right of first refusal should they subsequently wish to sell their car within 18 months of purchase.
“Ferrari does not condone and does not approve the speculative purchase of its limited-series cars, as this constitutes damage to Ferrari's image.”
Oh dear. Looks like someone might be in a bit of trouble with Italy…
