Revealed: the second Pagani Huayra ‘Codalunga’

Only five of these spectacular long tail Huayras will be built. Here’s number two

Published: 23 Jan 2023

Pagani has revealed the second version of its extraordinarily rare Huayra ‘Codalunga’, and much like the first car revealed last summer, this one’s just as spectacular.

It’s shod in more ‘traditional’ Pagani colours this time, a silvery-bronze paintwork with flashes of carbon fibre, matched to a brown/tan interior. We’re only told that this car, like all Codalungas, was “born from the collaboration between customer and Pagani Grandi Complicazoni”, showcasing “a unique and magnetic personality”.

'Grandi Complicazoni' refers to Pagani’s in-house special projects division, of which the Codalunga is the very first fruit. And it is special – just five of these elongated Huayras will be built.

Taking the Huayra Coupe as its base, Pagani’s GC team took inspiration from those gorgeous Le Mans long tail racers from the Sixties to stretch out the car’s rear for a more streamlined, cleaner aesthetic. It’s 360mm longer than a standard Huayra, and features a footprint of 3.7m².

If this car follows the same path as the first Codalunga (literally translated as 'long tail' in Italian) then it’ll feature the same uprated 6.0-litre V12, complete with 830bhp and 811lb ft of torque. The exhaust system, a new setup for the Codalunga, weighs just 4.4kg and is said to make a very special noise.

“We made the Huayra Codalunga longer and smoother, as if it had been caressed and moulded by the wind, to design lines that were even more elegant than the coupe,” boss Horacio Pagani said upon the original car’s reveal last year.

Each Codalunga cost its owner €7m, and as one would expect of such an extraordinarily expensive and powerful hypercar, all five have been accounted for.
