Is Pagani going for another 'Ring record?
Social media post suggests that a hardcore Huayra could be gunning for Porsche
If the ultimate futility of Nürburgring lap records gets to you, then perhaps this isn't the story for you. For the rest of us – who can put our grumbles aside to gasp in awe at perhaps the most foolhardy Top Trumps game in the world – it appears Pagani wants another crack at the record.
It last took its stopwatches to the Nordschleife in 2007, when the Zonda F took honours. But a teasing Facebook post suggests another attempt is to come, surely with a pumped-up Huayra like the BC, which has been seen testing at the ‘Ring recently. Perhaps not a coincidence.
“On September 25th 2007 Pagani set a new record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife,” the post read. “This time Marc Basseng drove a road-going Zonda F, chassis number 58, around the challenging 12.9 mile lap in just 7:27.82, eclipsing the Porsche’s unofficial record by almost four seconds.
“The lap record was our best way of celebrating the 50th anniversary of Fangio’s greatest race victory in the 1957 German GP, which of course was held on the original Nordschleife. To be continued…”
