Koenigsegg Regera reclaims 0-400-0km/h record from Rimac Nevera

We might never get to see the great heavyweight fights of our era, but an intriguing one is developing between a different pair of prizefighters - one a shiny new path to the future, the other an ageing champ. It's not quite Foreman vs Moorer, but we'll take it: Koenigsegg has claimed a new 0-400-0km/h record for its V8 hybrid Regera, with a time of 28.81s.

Insanely fast, right? That’s just over a second faster than the Rimac Nevera did it only last month, that car recording a time of 29.93s. And that 29s time was fast enough to take the record from the Regera which achieved a time of 31.49s back in 2019.

How on earth, then, did Koenigsegg manage to go almost three seconds faster in a car that’s long been off sale and hasn’t been privy to any new technological tweaks? “Because it can!” Koenigsegg proudly trumpets.

Indeed the company concedes the car was conceived and engineered ten years ago, so this new record-breaking time was courtesy of… a new set of tyres. Special tyres of course – new Cup2R rubber via Michelin – along with a “smoother track compared to previous record runs”.

As such, the numbers recorded by RaceLogic (to which we’ve used the Nevera’s RaceLogic stats where available) tally up like so: 0-400-0kmh in 28.81s, 0-400kmh in 20.68s (Nevera: 21.32s), 400-0kmh in 8.13s. In mph, it managed 0-250-0mph in 29.6s, 0-250mph in 21.35s (Nevera: 21.86s), and 250-0mph in 8.25s.

“This specific record is one that means a lot to Koenigsegg,” said boss Christian von Koenigsegg, “as it’s a record that covers every aspect of extreme performance. The fact that the Regera can still surprise and amaze the automotive world after all this time is a testament not only to its timeless design, but to engineering and technology that was way ahead of the curve.

“It’s something that makes me extremely proud, and as the Jesko customer cars are being delivered, we can’t wait to show you what’s next,” he added.
