Hennessey’s next supercar could be America’s take on the Carrera GT

How do you follow up the 300mph+ Venom F5? With an analogue, manual, lightweight driver’s car, apparently

Published: 24 Jul 2023

It appears John Hennessey, the Texan tuner with a penchant for making ‘fast things go faster’, will stick with pure petrol power for his next bespoke supercar project, TopGear.com can exclusively reveal.

Hennessey was planning to follow up the Venom F5 – the unhinged 1,817bhp, 6.6-litre twin-turbo V8 hypercar capable (in theory at least) of over 300mph – with Deep Space, a 2,000bhp six-wheel-drive electric hyper GT complete with a unique diamond-shaped seating layout. As you do.

However, customer feedback has been crystal clear – it’s too early to go electric, keep the combustion engine alive for as long as possible – and Hennessey has listened. To be clear, Deep Space hasn’t been canned, merely shuffled backwards in the pack, making way for another all-new supercar to follow F5, that'll debut around 2027 or 2028 – once all 100 Venom F5s have been built and delivered. Around 20 have been handed over to owners so far.

What do we know about this new model? Only crumbs and hints dropped by Mr Hennessey. Though the Venom F5 is and always will be his big numbers car. An attempt at a two-way average 300mph run in the F5 is in the plan, as soon as he can find somewhere long and straight enough, but whatever he makes next won’t go chasing even higher power and top speed figures.

Instead, he mentions Porsche’s 2003, V10-engined Carrera GT as a possible inspiration – suggesting something visceral, analogue, possibly with a naturally-aspirated engine, manual gearbox and open top for maximum driver engagement is the order of the day. We shall see. One thing we do know is it won’t be subtle, this is John Hennessey after all.
