This is the final Porsche 918 Spyder
A moment’s silence, please: Porsche confirms 918th hybrid hypercar has been built, and it is the last one
That's it, that's all. Porsche has today confirmed it has built the very last 918 Spyder from its planned production run.
It's the maroon Porsche 918 Spyder in the picture above, number 918 - see what they did there? - and, we're told, it's bang on time.
"The final Porsche 918 Spyder came off the line in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen according to schedule," says Porsche. Of course it did.
You'll know by now that the hyper-hybrid Porsche features a 4.6-litre, race-derived V8 supplemented by electric motors front and rear. The system's total power output rests at a heady 875bhp, that V8 revving to a dizzying 9,150rpm for good measure, too.
It'll go from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and top out at 214mph. Not slow, by anyone's book.
Including the Book of Nürburgring, where the 918 Spyder famously scorched a lap in just 6m 57s. Irrespective of whether this beats the McLaren P1's unpublished ‘sub-seven-minute' time, the Porsche is ruddy fast.
Fast, and sold out, Porsche having already confirmed that all 918 of the planned production run have been accounted for. Same story for LaFerrari. Ditto McLaren P1. Even the Koenigsegg One:1 - the renegade fourth, unofficial member of this epic shootout - is fully accounted for.
So since you can't buy it any more (just when you'd saved up the pennies, right?) you'll want to see the hyper-Porsche in action. Hit the links below to head off in search of more 918 goodness...
