Donkervoort's D8 'Bare Naked Carbon Edition' is NSFW
Prepare thine eyes for lots and lots of colourful carbon fibre
How do you make a bonkers, featherweight, roofless, 415bhp supercar just that little bit more eye-catching? Why, you take all of its clothes off, of course.
At least that’s what Dutch carmaker Donkervoort says it has done with the D8 GTO-JD70 Bare Naked Carbon Edition (BNCE). Quite the name, isn’t it? What it means is that you can order your Audi-engined special edition D8 with either a clear or coloured lacquer over that carbon-fibre bodywork.
Developed after a request from a customer in 2018, Donkervoort says that the BNCE allows the customer to see what they’ve paid for – given that 95 per cent of the standard JD70 bodywork is carbon-fibre and that it costs around £141,000 before tax. Ouch.
Half of the 70 planned JD70s have already been sold however, although Donkevoort won’t say how many customers have gone naked.
For those that do want to see the weave but still want a bit of colour, the options are green, red, blue, gold or grey with either a matte or polished finish. Oh, and they’ll save a whole 4kg over the standard 700kg JD70.
