Cosworth will continue making V12s for the foreseeable future

After T.50 and Valkyrie, more 12-cylinder goodness will come from the esteemed British engine supplier

Published: 26 Feb 2025

Cosworth is something of a national treasure for us Brits, and it's really flexed its production car muscles of late by supplying the V12 powertrains for two of the finest hypercars in the world: the GMA T.50 and the Aston Martin Valkyrie. And it won’t stop there.

Speaking to TopGear.com, the commercial director of Cosworth’s Northampton branch, Chris Willoughby, has confirmed the engine supplier will continue to create V12s until further notice. Most excellent news indeed.

“We’re already working on the next generation of emissions legislation, which pushes the bar even higher and is harder to get through,” says Willoughby. “But we’ve done the tests and analysis that proves we can pass those legislations with a V12, so as far as we can see right now, we can continue to make them.

“Modern road cars are amazing bits of technology, but there’s a difference between a V6 and a V12. The demand for that theatre and engineering art of what we do only seems to be growing. We’re at a point where even places like Goodwood are running sustainable fuels, so the building blocks of a future for what we do are there already.”

With Cosworth now also branching off into 16-cylinder engines with the 1,775bhp Bugatti Tourbillon (which you can listen to here), it seems the future of high-revving, high-performance engines is safe… for now.
