Back with a bang! Praga begins production of its furious £1.16m Bohema hypercar
Weighing less than a tonne and arming drivers with 700bhp, behold your cut-price Gordon Murray T.50
When we drove a pre-production prototype of the road-legal Praga Bohema hypercar back in late 2022, we were pretty impressed. After a long period of radio silence, the Czech brand is now finally putting it into production, with initial deliveries scheduled for the first half of 2024 at an eye-watering £1.16m a pop.
That’s not the only astonishing figure attached to the Bohema, though. Armed with the 3.8-litre bi-turbo V6 from the Nissan GT-R, this open-top, two-seat destroyer of tarmac sends 700bhp to the rear set of its Pirelli Trofeo R tyres through a six-speed manual transmission. It’s sequential too, so you get the entire range of aggressive gearbox clunks and clanks you expect from a proper racing car.
Want a few more jaw-dropping figures? The Bohema’s all-carbon body contributes to a total weight of just under 1,000kg. And thanks to its selection of gapes and fins - which makes it look like a BAC Mono from the deepest, darkest depths of hell - this car is claimed to push around 900kg of downforce at high speeds. In Top Gear maths, that’s like having five male African lions perched atop the roof.
Tomas Kasparek, head of Praga Cars, said: “This is an important milestone for Praga in our long 117-year history. We are monitoring every stage of the build process very closely to make sure that the Bohema production car matches, and even exceeds our customers’ expectations.”
Meanwhile, the sales and marketing director of Praga Cars, Mark Harrison, said: “Praga is new to the hypercar market, but the product quality, pricing, launch programme and, most importantly, the car’s performance are generating excitement and interest. I’m looking forward to seeing the first car handed over.”
If our wintery experience was anything to go by, coupled with Praga’s rigorous testing schedule which saw the Bohema clock up countless hours of track time at the Nürburgring, Red Bull Ring, and Spa-Francorchamps, we expect owners may never need to visit a theme park again to get their adrenaline rush.
It’s also worth considering that the Bohema’s test driver roster includes former F1 driver Romain Grosjean, and some bloke called Ben Collins. That name rings a bell...
Anyway, Thorpe Park’s loss could very well be Praga’s gain, it seems.
