Aston Martin: ‘no Vulcan road car planned’

Aston Martin won’t build a road-going version of the bombastic, 800bhp+ Vulcan track car. Boo.

Speaking to TopGear.com, an Aston Martin spokesperson confirmed that though there was some interest in a road-legal version of the exclusive track-only supercar from prospective buyers, the company was geared only on making it an exceptional circuit toy.

“We have been asked by a number of prospects if we could convert the car for road use,” Aston Martin told us. “However, there are no plans to develop a road-going version and our engineers are solely focused on creating the ultimate Aston Martin track-based supercar.”

Though in theory a Vulcan supercar fit for the road – complete with mighty wing and LMP1 front-end – sounds like all your Christmases in one sitting, it might not actually be that beneficial to your eardrums, or indeed your shins. The Vulcan, don’t forget, sports side-exit exhausts that shoot out 200mm of fire on each downshift, produced by a naturally aspirated 7.0-litre V12. Yikes.

Just 24 Aston Martin Vulcans will be built, and the company also confirmed that it has nearly sold the lot, now that the car has entered an “intensive testing schedule”. Each one will cost £1.5m, plus taxes, if you’re interested.
