Aston Martin wants Valkyrie owners to drive their cars, not store them away

Marek Reichman tells TG that sticking a Valk' in a museum is fine, but really, they should be sent on tunnel runs

Published: 02 Oct 2023

You’ll need a cool £3m to buy an Aston Martin Valkyrie if you include taxes and options. And, thanks to the 126 decibel noise in the cabin, you’ll then need to wear headphones to drive the thing.

That might tempt some well-heeled owners into wrapping the car up in cotton wool and using it as an investment, but that’s not what Aston wants to see.

“Ultimately it’s up to the customer what they do,” said Aston’s creative boss Marek Reichman when he sat down with TG recently.

“If they want to buy a Valkyrie and stick it in a museum, great. But you want to hear and see them. You want to look at Instagram feeds of Valkyries driving through tunnels. That’s why we make them. You want people to enjoy them.”

Clearly some of the customers who have already taken delivery are enjoying their cars though, with one having already sent their car through the first 1,000km service.

“We’ve got one Valkyrie customer who I think has 1,500km already on the car,” says Reichman. “It’s so good to see that. We want cars to be driven, that’s why we make them.”

Apparently most of those were road miles too rather than time spent blitzing everything else on circuit at the local track day. Well done that person. If this is you, please make TG aware so that we can give you a hearty pat on the back…
