This is an all-American kit car with a 9.5-litre V12

Do you trust yourself to put up flat-pack furniture and change your spark plugs once in a while? Well, we’ve got great news for you – because soon you’ll be able to build your very own 750bhp V12-engined supercar, all from the comfort of your own garage.

Yep, the renders you see above are of a kit car – the Factory Five Racing F9R to be precise – and it sounds absolutely bonkers. 

First some background. Factory Five Racing is a Massachusetts-based company that is perhaps best known for its AC Cobra- and hot rod-style DIY kits. However, at SEMA this year it showed off a rolling chassis which was to underpin a brand-new halo supercar.

The F9R is said supercar. Apparently, it’s wearing a track-only racing nose in these images (and the accompanying video) and there’ll be a separate road-legal one revealed soon, but what do you think of the looks? Pretty wild right?

The body will apparently be made solely from carbonfibre and has been designed by Phil Frank – the same man who penned the Saleen S7 back in 2000. Production isn’t set to start until late 2020 or even early 2021, but Factory Five says it hopes to have a prototype ready by spring/summer next year.

The chassis it showed off at SEMA housed a frankly terrifying 9.5-litre V12 which made 750bhp and 700lb ft of torque, and with the target weight at just under 1,100kg, that would make for a blisteringly quick garage-build. 

If that puts the absolute fear of God into you – not to worry. Factory Five also says that small block V8s from both Ford and General Motors will slot in there instead.

That’s about all we know so far, and as for the price, that’s still ‘to be decided’. If you fancy yourself as a handy mechanic, it could be the bargain of the century…
