This is a million-dollar 911 GT2

Has there been a cooler, more feared car in the history of, well, cars? For your viewing pleasure, allow us to present this mint condition 993-generation Porsche 911 GT2. It's up for auction, and it's properly brilliant.

The GT2 was, don't forget, the 911 dubbed ‘Widowmaker'; a car so utterly brutal it'd punch you in the face just for looking at it. And you will want to look at it, because it's one of the coolest 911s ever built.

It was born from the international GT racing circuit, of course, Porsche having to build a number of road-going GT2s in order to compete in the BPR series of the time.

So, using a 993-generation 911 Turbo as the base, the GT2 was equipped with aluminium doors and boot lid, relieved of its interior comfort, and shorn of its four-wheel-drive system.

Oh, and this being quite amusing to Porsche, they decided that this lightweight Turbo should be given more boost, just to make things interesting. Thus, the twin-turbo 3.6-litre flat six got even more oomph, making a cool 430bhp sent only to the rear wheels. Yikes.

Then there were additions like the wider GRP arches, the bigger front air dam, a huge adjustable rear wing with openings on either side to feed air to the air-cooled motor. Three-piece racing wheels only added to the package.

This particular example has recorded just over 22,000 miles and has lived a very charmed life. All the original handbooks and tools are present and correct, and it's one of just 17 delivered to Japan, where it remained until last year, before heading over to the States.

While in the States - in the hands of a ‘well known Porsche enthusiast', we're told - it was kept in a climate controlled room and driven ‘sparingly'. Whether that's through fear or love, we're not told. We suspect the former.

It's being offered up for auction at Gooding & Co's Amelia Island auction in early March, and is expected to fetch up to $1.2m - around £800k, give or take. Reckon you're hard enough?
