Mercedes McLaren SLR news - Mod my McMerc - 2007
We've never looked at the Mercedes McLaren SLR and thought, 'Hell, there's a car that needs a bit of tuning up and some bigger wheels'. But perhaps that's why we're not modders, while the guys at Project Kahn - responsible for this, erm, personalised SLR - are.
Admittedly, it's a more subtle modification job than some we've seen. There's a power boost to a massive 677bhp, lowered suspension and a reworked exhaust but, mercifully, the bodywork remains largely unaltered.
However, we're a bit bemused by those big wheels - 20-inchers at the front and 21s at the rear, if you're measuring.
See, classy as Project Kahn's alloys are, the SLR's stock 'turbine wheels' help cool the 5.4-litre V8 engine by drawing air away from the front of the car. It doesn't look like these wheels will do the same, so it might get a bit hot up front.
On the plus side, Project Kahn will sort you out with a custom leather interior and bespoke paint job, just in case you felt a bit common in your standard SLR.
Cost? No word, sadly, but expect to pay a healthy premium on top of the SLR's usual £320-odd grand.
A phrase involving the words 'money', 'more', 'than' and 'sense' springs to mind.
