It’s the Ferrari F40’s 25th birthday!

Published: 26 Apr 2012

There's something agonizingly, effortlessly awesome about the Ferrari F40. Yes, the build quality's not the best, the paint's so thin you can see the carbonfibre weave through it, and you don't even get proper doorhandles. But it's a supercar par excellence - nothing but power. And a ruddy great spoiler.

And, this year, it turned 25 years old. So a group of well-heeled Spanish Ferraristi celebrated with a little get-together at the Catalunya Classic Revival in Spain - seven examples were joined by a two F50s, a 288 GTO, Enzo, 250 GT SWB, Testarossa and Mondial for a thrash round the Circuit de Catalunya.

As you're clicking through this rather handsome gallery of images, remember just how important a machine this was. When it launched in 1987 it cost nearly £200,000, which was approximately the same price as a large bit of Northern England.

Such was the price tag, Ferrari only anticipated selling a few hundred. But demand was so high it ended up cobbling 1300 cars together, making the F40 one of the most profitable models in the company's history.
