Cholmondeley PoP this weekend

Published: 18 Jun 2012

It's really not that difficult. The ‘l', ‘o', ‘n', ‘d' and ‘e' are silent. And the first ‘o' is actually pronounced like a ‘u'. So, altogether now: it's the Chumley Pageant of Power.

This weekend, on the rather delectable grounds of Cholmondeley Castle, the other UK festival celebrating speed will attempt to pull one over Mother Nature by distracting its audience with the sound of many horsepowers ; distract, that is, from the torrential rain and possible thunderstorms threatening to turn this weekend into a made-for-TV version of Waterworld.

Still, should you brave the climes and venture onto the heritage grounds, you'll be presented with quite a few cars you may have been lusting after on our Internet pages. New for the fifth year of the CPoP is the ‘Supercar' race class, featuring such hits as the Lamborghini Aventador, BAC Mono, Bentley Continental V8, BMW M5, Porsche 911 Carrera S, Vauxhall Maloo, Ferrari 458 Italia, Ariel Atom V8, Radical SR3 SL and mighty Mercedes Benz SLS AMG.

Not only that, you'll also get the opportunity to see one of just five UK registered Aston Martin One-77s on a parade lap. This is Good Thing. Joining the Aston will be the McLaren F1, Ferrari Enzo, Ford GT, Bugatti EB110 (the other Bug'), Jaguar XJ220 and something strange from 1910 called a Monowheel.

Naturally, there'll be lots of other stuff, including the 'Bond in Motion' exhibition, a freestyle Motocross display, fireworks, some helicopters, and men strapped to aeroplanes. Oh, and something called a ‘John McGuinness' (we understand its rather handy on a bike). Top Gear magazine will also be there, handing out free Stuff too. It's on all weekend, so head this way for tickets, and click through from some more preview pics...
