Behold the Galpin GTR1 supercar

Los Angeles-based Galpin Auto Sports, the home of MTV's Pimp My Ride, has turned the focus on itself and developed the GTR1 - its very own 1,000bhp, 225mph supercar.

Based on the Ford GT, the GTR1 was inspired by the Ford GR-1 concept car - and GAS boss Beau Boeckmann's curiosity over how a modern day Ford GT would look and run.

The engine mods see the standard supercharger removed from the 5.4-litre V8 and replaced by a pair of 61mm turbos.

The turbos boost power to 1024bhp and torque to 739lb ft using 91 octane petrol - almost double the standard GT's output.

The bodywork for the GTR1, which is five inches wider than the stock GT, is all new and fashioned from aluminium by bespoke concept car gurus Metalcrafters.

All the glass and lights are also made by the concept car maker and the wheels are 20-inch forged aluminium numbers with racing-style knock-off central wheel nuts.

Braking has been upgraded through the addition of full F1-style carbon rotors and pads in six-piston calipers.

The interior features a machined aluminium instrument cluster, a McIntosh sound system and swathes of tightly fitted leather.

Performance figures for the GTR1 are 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds and a top speed ‘in excess of 225mph'.

The initial production run of six GTR1s can be ordered with carbon fibre bodywork for $1,024,000 - a thousand dollars per horsepower - or with aluminium bodywork for $1,224,000.

Both prices include the donor car. We're sure Xzibit approves heartily...
