Skoda Fabia news - Bad Czech - 2008
Sod the cake. This is how to get us salivating over a Fabia.
This is the Super 2000 version of Skoda's confection-tastic little supermini, and while we're obviously far too discerning to fall into that cliche about it looking good enough to eat, it definitely looks good enough to thrash round a test track to the strains of twee Julie Andrews classics.
Super 2000 is an FIA race series for production-based cars, and specifies that competitors must run a two-litre naturally aspirated four-pot petrol engine with six-speed sequential transmission.
In recent years the discipline has been dominated by Fiat Puntos, Ford Fiestas and Peugeot 207s. But what chance do they stand against a matt-black Fab with a white roof, monster arches and, best of all, no badges?
Though the Fabia Super 2000 is just a prototype at this stage, Skoda says that once it is ready for competition it will be offered to private teams for race use. Team Top Gear eagerly anticipates its arrival.
