Would you take a chance on this 177,000-mile Alfa Romeo GTV Cup?

Ex-Alfa press car is up for auction. Fancy a Busso V6 in your life?

Published: 09 Jun 2022

Racking up over 177,000 miles in any Alfa Romeo is rather impressive considering the brand’s less-than-favourable reputation for reliability, but in a limited-run GTV Cup? That is something we’ll stand and applaud.

That’s exactly the case for the glorious Busso V6-engined wedge you see above, although you’ve the British motoring press to thank for some of that, because this particular 2001 GTV Cup started its life on the Alfa Romeo GB press fleet.

It’s been through a few owners and many more miles since then, but it’s now up for auction on Car & Classic and at the time of writing the bidding stands at just £3,600. We’re having to sit on our hands to stop ourselves joining in.

As you might imagine, it’s taken a fair bit of effort to keep it looking this fresh after more than two decades and almost enough miles to cover a trip from the earth to the moon. The ad states that it’s had a full body respray, rebuilt suspension using Koni dampers, welding to the sills, a new cambelt, a Wizard quad-exit exhaust and a whole host more work besides.

What an absolutely glorious thing it is though. Inspired by the one-make race series, just 419 road cars were made worldwide, with only 155 of those being right-hand drive.

What do we think folks?
