Toyota is building brand-new parts for the 2000GT

Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division is on a bit of a roll of late. It won the 2019 World Rally Championship with Ott Tänak, took overall victory at the last two Le Mans 24hrs and is currently in the process of bringing us the lightweight, four-wheel drive, 257bhp rally-rep GR Yaris. Nice.

Back in January, Toyota also announced something called the GR Heritage Parts Project. Essentially, the plan was for Gazoo to build new versions of old parts for the A70 and A80 Supras that would help keep cars on the road. 

And now, even more good news, because the Heritage Parts Project has been extended to include the wonderful 2000GT. Launched in 1967 in collaboration with Yamaha, the 2000GT featured a 2.0-litre straight-six, double wishbone suspension, disc brakes all round and those all-important pop-up headlights. What a thing.

Sadly only 337 2000GTs were ever built, so keeping them on the road is priority number one for Toyota. The new parts – which seem to be transmission and differential-related for now – will be distributed worldwide by Toyota dealers, although you’ll have to prove you own a 2000GT before they let you buy anything.
