Now’s your chance to own a wonderful Peugeot 205 T16

We love looking through auction lot lists here at TG. Search hard enough and you’ll inevitably find something ridiculously cool and impossibly expensive up for grabs. But today we’ve hit the motherload – a competition-spec Group B Peugeot 205 T16 offered by Silverstone Auctions.

You likely won’t see anything cooler on the internet this week. The T16 was Peugeot’s ultra-successful, four-wheel drive, mid-engined answer to the Audi Quattro – complete with that awesome works livery and as much as 400bhp from its transversely-mounted 1.8-litre turbocharged four-pot. Yeah, Group B was something else.

This particular T16 was commissioned by American rally driver Jon Woodner and built by Peugeot Sport UK in 1984. Woodner competed successfully in the SCCA Rally Championship in the US before his death in 1988, upon which the car was placed in storage until it was eventually sold in 2000.

The buyer then was Kiwi businessman Peter Johnson, who put the car through a ground-up rebuild before it was sold to ex-works Peugeot driver Kevin Furber in the UK. Since then, Furber and the car’s other part-owner Andy Medlicott have actively displayed the car at a number of big events – hence the signatures on its bodywork, which include Ari Vatanen, Juha Kankkunen, Miki Biasion, Harri Toivonen and Paddy Hopkirk.

And if that history wasn’t enough for you, this particular T16 also comes with a mega package of spares. There’s a used six-speed flat shift gearbox, plenty of engine parts including a cylinder head, brake discs, suspension parts, fuel pumps, an exhaust and even an original 1988 light pod (which we’d recommend fitting immediately).

Plus, there’s even fibreglass body moulds for the bonnet, front bumper and front wing – so you can drive the wheels off it knowing that a ding wouldn’t be the end of the world.
