MST’s MK1 Evolution limited production run gets underway

Fresh from the paint shop, the rolling prototype looks good

Published: 11 Jul 2023

Welsh outfit Motorsport Tools (MST) has released the first images of its Mk1 Evo rolling prototype (based on a Mk1 Ford Escort) ahead of the order books opening. And it's a very pretty thing.

Fast, too. It features a 2.8-litre Millington Diamond engine, six-speed ‘box and WRC-spec suspension in the front and back – originally developed and tested by the late great Colin McRae. There are also AP Racing’s lightweight six-pot brakes, designed specifically to tolerate higher braking temperatures.

The chassis of the Mk1 Evolution has been tweaked to accommodate the newly designed carbon arches for the 17” wheels. The spoilers and diffuser also get the carbon treatment.

MST is also offering a bespoke interior – comfort trimmed for road use, or totally stripped for racing. It’s planning a limited run of only 10 individually numbered examples, with a couple of extra tarmac rally specials.

It’s planning on showcasing the new builds at some car shows over the summer, including Blenheim Palace’s Salon Privé in August.
