This Ferrari 400i limo just sold at auction for almost £40k
Yes, that is a 4.8-litre V12-engined limousine. And no, we don’t know why
“Lovely-looking 1981 Ferrari 400i in pretty tidy condition,” you might think if you saw this thing directly from the front or the rear. Then you catch a glimpse of the side profile.
Yep, this is a 400i limo, and it just sold at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction for $52,800 (around £39,000). Yikes. We know there aren’t many 400s in the US as it was never officially sold over there, but clearly someone was rather desperate.
The Barrett-Jackson listing was fairly light on information too, although it did mention that the XXL Ferrari has a numbers-matching powertrain and that it has less than 15,000 miles on the clock. Shame about the two new doors and the giant structure welded into the middle of it.
A ‘numbers-matching powertrain’ does mean that the original 4.8-litre V12 is present and correct, though, and apparently this particular 400i uses the three-speed auto gearbox.
The interior now seems to have four seats in the elongated rear compartment, with plenty of leather, a fridge and some drop-down TV screens. Because it wouldn’t be a limo without a few tellys.
Thoughts on the creation, Internet?
