Feeling brave? This is a £10k, 320,000-mile Alpina B10

Values of classic BMWs have gone through the roof in recent years. And values of classic Alpinas? Well, we’d rather not talk about that. Still, if you look hard enough (and take enough brave pills) there might just be one or two bargains left to be had.

Take this glorious E28 B10 which is set to be sold at Anglia Car Auctions’ Saturday 13 June sale. The estimate? Between £10,000 - £12,000. What a steal. 

Now, there are reasons for that low estimate of course. The main one being that this particular B10 has covered almost 320,000 miles during the course of its 33-year life. That is seriously impressive, and a doff of our cap must go to its first owner - businessman Sir Thomas Cowie – who bought it new and kept the car until his death in 2012. 

According to the listing, “the service book contains fifty service stamps from 1,281 miles in 1988 to 307,555 miles in 2005". Incredible. Yes, it’s showing some signs of age, but all the important bits look sound to us from the pictures. And what a fantastic thing the E28 B10 was.

Just 25 right-hand drive examples were produced for the UK by Sytner, and this is one of the very few that was originally based on the M535i (itself a genesis moment for fast BMW saloons).

That means stunning Alpina looks combined with a hearty straight-six, manual gearbox, revised M-Technic suspension and even a limited-slip diff.
