Fancy a brand-new Lancia Gamma Berlina?

This glorious Gamma is heading to auction with just 79 miles on the clock

Published: 15 Jun 2021

Well, this is a little bit special. This is a 1976 Lancia Gamma Berlina with just 79 miles on the clock. Yep, it’s basically brand-new.

For the maths fans among us, that’s an average of 1.68 miles per year during the course of this Lancia’s life.

The story goes that the four-door, right-hand drive Gamma was ordered new by an Englishman who was working in Turin back in 1976. The problem came when the dealer took delivery of the car and the buyer was nowhere to be found. Intriguing, right? The Gamma was subsequently shoved to the back of a workshop and sat there for 38 years.

The current owner managed to buy it in 2014 when it had just 16 miles on its clock, but they’re now putting it up for sale at the Classic Car Auctions’ London sale next week.

There’s no sign of the trademark Lancia rust, but having sat for that long without moving an inch, it’s no surprise that the current owner had to do some work to get it moving. ‘Some work’ might be a bit of an understatement actually, because the sale of this Gamma will include a specially commissioned hardback book that documents and illustrates the 600+ hour restoration it has recently undergone. Blimey.

The original engine had even been removed at some point during its time with the dealer, so a period-correct 2.5-litre flat-four was sourced from the Netherlands and completely overhauled.
