Clive Sutton is bringing these Shelby Cobras to the UK

Replica and continuation Shelby Cobras will be made available in right-hand drive

Published: 14 Dec 2021

British high-performance and luxury car retailer Clive Sutton has announced that it’s importing three versions of the iconic Shelby Cobra - meticulously remade by Superformance - to the UK.

Better still, the replica and continuation models will all be made available in right-hand drive. So no toll booth hell for potential buyers.

You’ll need plenty of loose change if you’re one of them, mind: the MkII Slab Side Cobra - a continuation of the Cobra 289 that first landed in 1962 - costs a whopping £124,950.

Built on a Tojeiro-styled round tube chassis, the car uses original-style leaf spring suspension, although the engine is new; a 5.7-litre ROUSH unit that provides an ‘authentic’ driving experience, says Clive Sutton.

Meanwhile the MkIII (which TG has driven before) is priced at £123,950. It too has a new ROUSH engine, this time a 7.0-litre V8 that’s lighter than the original block, resulting in better performance and handling.

It features side exhaust pipes, plus a wider body, wings and wheel arches, independent front and rear suspension, power-assisted brakes and a five-speed Treme transmission, among much else.

There’s also the option of the MkIII-R (which TG has merely seen and drooled over) too: that gets enhanced aerodynamics via a front splitter and rear diffuser, although it’ll set you back £136,950. A two-year, 30,000-mile warranty is included, however.

“We have a long history with the Cobra, so it holds a special place in our hearts,” said Clive Sutton, founder and CEO of, you guessed it, Clive Sutton. “Many of our customers grew up adoring this model, so we’re confident of a warm reception for our Cobra range. Offering the world’s only Shelby-licensed Cobras is a source of great pride and we can’t wait to share these special vehicles with enthusiasts everywhere.”

Order books are open now, and deliveries are expected to begin in the middle of 2022.

Lance Stander, CEO of Superformance, added: “We are delighted to welcome UK retailer Clive Sutton to the Superformance family. The Clive Sutton team has a long history of importing American sports cars to the UK, including Shelby Cobras. We look forward to building right-hand drive Superformance MkIII's for the UK market and growing our Superformance presence there.”
