Classified of the week: Rubystone Red Porsche 964 RS
Ruby. Stone. Red. That is all…
We can only apologise for the completely unproductive rest of day you are about to embark on. That’s because, having spent some time clicking through the images above ourselves, we were instantly lost down an internet rabbit hole of the most iconic air-cooled Porsche 911s and their best possible colour combinations.
A few hours later, we’re back and finally able to tell you a bit more about the stunning Rubystone Red 964 Carrera RS that now graces your screen.
It’s currently up for private sale via the Californian auction house Gooding & Company. We’ll hit you with the asking price early doors, because 964 RS values have gone through the roof in recent years. This one, in that glorious hue, will set you back $315,000 (roughly £245,000). Dreams = shattered.
With four previous owners and 61,000 miles on the clock, this particular 1992 example is hardly a garage queen, either. Although we wouldn’t have it any other way – well done for driving it, people.
Let’s go through the specs. The 964 RS was a limited-edition special influenced by the Carrera Cup racer of the time. Early versions such as this one featured a revised version of the standard Carrera 2’s 3.6-litre flat-six engine, which sent 260bhp to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
In full ‘Lightweight’ trim as demonstrated here, the Carrera RS shunned air conditioning, a radio, electric windows, rear seats and sound deadening – all in the pursuit of performance. Instead it got larger brakes, stiffer suspension, magnesium wheels and Recaro bucket seats to go with that upgraded engine. Check out the trim of those Recaros too – just wow.
This one’s in completely original condition and features matching numbers, if that’s what floats your boat. We can’t say we’re too bothered about that, but just look at the thing…
